Is the paper of current interest to a reasonable segment of the readership?

Is the paper likely to be used by other researchers and is the topic of the paper considered important?

Is the paper technically sound?

How would you describe the technical depth of the paper?

Does the paper make a contribution to the state-of-the-art in its field?

Does the paper make adequate reference to earlier contributions?

Does the title aadequately reflect the content of the manuscript?

Is the abstract an appropriate and adequate digest of the work presented?

Are the keywords well chosen?

Does the introduction clearly state the background and motivation in terms of being understandable to the non-specialist?

Is the paper well organised?

Relative to its technical content, is the length of the paper appropriate?

Is the English satisfactory?

How readable is the paper for somebody who is not a specialist in this particular field?

Is there unnecessary duplication of material in text, figures, tables?
